Hand- embroidered abbayas became popular in the 1980’ and 90’s, with the return of handicrafts. And these abbayas became popular especially in the winter as an alternative to wearing a heavy coat. And some women especially like to wear them during Ramadan parties. This abbaya ( 84) cost me 2000 dinars in the 1980’s when I bought it (about £3000).
