Ancient Iraq was famous for its reliefs, which depicted
everyday life. Examples of these can be found in many of the world’s most famous
museums. I bought this piece; it reminds me that Iraq is an ancient
civilization. I bought it from the artist who made it, Mazin, when
he exhibited in
Abu Dhabi. He is famous for this kind of work, which has become very
widespread over the last 20 years. It is an affirmation of Iraqi identity.
This relief represents the twin rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates,
palm trees, doors of traditional houses and the scorching sun of July
