![]() This commemorates Abdul Karim Kasim, leader of the 1958 revolution, which overthrew the monarchy. The first attempt on his life was in 1959 by a young Saddam Hussein. He was killed in 1963 in the coup, which brought the first Ba’ath regime to power. I kept this plate because I think Abdul Karim Kasim was the only honest national figure we have had in Iraq.
